Generally, we prefer dal with rice; it’s a good combination to eat but here we are coming with some tweak in it. This time, we are bringing delicious and yummy recipe; quick, healthy and tasty dry cabbage curry that will be a good combination with rice. You can eat it with bread and roti too. It’s not just to eat at home but it will be better option for Tiffin and also for roti rolls or sandwiches. Apart from cabbage, peas, carrot, steamed potatoes etc too are too good for this recipe.
- 1 table spoon oil (you can use more if needed)
- Cumin/jeera: ½ tea spoon
- Mustard: ½ tea spoon
- Urad Dal: 1 ½ tsp
- Ginger garlic paste: ¾ tsp
- Turmeric as needed
- Salt as needed
- Chili powder:3/4 tsp
- Garam Masala: ¾ tsp garam masala
- Choppded Cabbage: 3 cups
Wash and chop cabbage then drain the water properly. Take a steam basket; add in it. Sprinkle turmeric and salt and then spread evenly in basket. Steam it in a steamer until tender or in a pressure cooker for about 5 to 7 minutes.
Take a kadai and add oil in it. Crackle cumin and mustard then add urad dal, hing and red chilli.
After adding all these, add curry leaves.
Keep it on low heat, when leaves turn crisp, sauté ginger garlic paste. The raw smell will be gone.
Add garam masala and red chili powder. Taste it, if salt or red chili powder required then add it.
Now it’s time to add steamed cabbage.
Saute it on medium flame for 2-3 minutes. Switch off the stove. If you want to make it more tasty, sauté it for 1-2 minutes more.
Your recipe is ready to eat; Serve it with roti, bread or rice.
If any of your family member doesn’t like cabbage; but this recipe will help to like them. It cannot be only eaten with rice but it with roti and bread will be a better option. You can make it spicy as per your taste. This is different from simple Cabbage curry at home. Surprise your beloved one with this curry.
