Indian Breakfast: Recipe: Quick Egg Oats Upma

Morning is the hectic time for any housewife especially in preparing food. Most of women have same problem of preparing food quickly in morning. We are coming with egg oats upma recipe which is prepared in just 15 minutes. You can add mixed green vegetables to add nutrition and increase the volume to the dish. It’s optional; you do not want then no worry.  You can use quick or rolled oats; it’s your choice. But I prefer to use rolled out; it gives better texture than the quick cook oats.

This is not a pure recipe that you must need to follow recipe. One can tweak it a bit as per your taste. Garam masala and ginger garlic are good ingredients to add it; it will increase aroma of recipe. It’s not only for breakfast, you can eat it in dinner.


  • Rolled oats: ¾ cups
  • 1 egg
  • 1 table spoon oil
  • 1 tea spoon chopped ginger or paste
  • 1 green chili chopped
  • Cumin: ½ tea spoon
  • Chopped mix veg: ¼ cup
  • Salt as needed
  • Turmeric as required
  • Lemon juice: ½ tbsp
  • Chopped Coriander leaves


Step 1

Take a pan, put on stove, add tsp oil. Crackle cumin in medium heat oil. Saute ginger, onions and green chilies.

Step 2

Once you found onion in pink or golden color then add mix vegetables. You can use peas, corn carrots, capsicum, beans etc. If you do not want to add it then ignores it.

Step 3

Saute for 1 ½ minute. Then cover and cook on low temperature until it become soft. You can also add little water and cook; if needed.

Step 4

Add salt, oats, turmeric and garam masala (not mandatory). Now take rolled oats, rinse them properly under running water in colander. Drain it and then add ti the pan.

Step 5

Saute for 3 to 4 minutes; because of moist vegetables, it doesn’t turn crunchy.

Step 6

Pour the egg in pan. Sprinkling water if you use rolled oats.

Step 7

Mix everything & scrambling the egg.

Step 8

Cover and cook it with low temperature until oats and egg are completely cooked.

Step 9

Switch of Stove; sprinkle coriander leaves and lemon juice as per your taste.


This recipe requires only 15 minutes so I preferred it to cook in morning hectic time. Surprise your family members with egg oats upma recipe.
