Consumption of junk food has increased because of which health is on the point of risk. So now, let’s don’t just compromise with the health of our child and family member and prepare a recipe that is both healthy and tasty Masala Oats Upma in just 20 minutes which they will love to eat.

Everyone will enjoy this yummy and delicious oats upma made with rolled oats. This is the perfect quick dish prepared in dinner when you don’t want to make a long processed dish and is healthy too. Masala oats upma can be eaten alone tastes delicious but if you want then it can be served with dahi, chutney, buttermilk or papad. But while preparing this dish keep one thing in mind that if it is made with rolled oats it will be non-mushy and will be mushy with quick cook oats.


  • ¾ cup fresh vegetables (carrots, beans, peas, cabbage, capsicum, corn and whatever veggies you want to add)
  • Tomatoes of medium size – 2
  • Fresh coriander leaves
  • Coriander powder
  • ½ tsp ginger and garlic paste
  • Turmeric powder
  • 1 onion - very thinly chopped
  • ¾ cup luke warm water (as per need)
  • Salt as per your taste
  • ½ tsp Garam masala powder or Pav Bhaji masala
  • Cumin seeds
  • Oil
  • Red chili powder (as per your taste)


Step 1

Roast oats until they turn to golden brown and keep aside.

Step 2

Pre-heat a pan and add oil. Add cumin seeds and let them crackle

Step 3

Saute paste of ginger and garlic at low flame. Do not over sauté.

Step 4

Then mix finely chopped onions in the pan and sauté it till it turns slightly golden

Step 5

Add all vegetables and cook for few minutes till tomatoes turn mushy

Step 6

Add salt, coriander powder, chili powder, turmeric powder and garam masala and then mix it well for 2-3 minutes

Step 7

Add water and boil it.

Step 8

Add pre- roasted oats and stir well

Step 9

Cover the pan and let it be cooked. You can add water as per the consistency.

Step 10

Garnish it with coriander leaves or ghee and your masala oats is ready


Serve this delicious and yummy dish with dahi, buttermilk or papad.
